Planning Board/ZBA Vacancy-AT-Large & ETJ

The Town of Fletcher is seeking to fill two vacancies on the Planning Board & Zoning Board of Adjustment. (Members serve dual roles on the one Board). This first seat is specifically for the Extra-Territorial Jurisdiction (ETJ) of Fletcher, and ultimately will be appointed by the Henderson County Commissioners. The other vacant seat is an “at-large” seat which will be open as of January 11, 2026. Any qualified resident that lives in the Fletcher Town limits may apply for the at-large seat.

Functions of the Planning Board include recommendations to the Town Council on applications related to Rezoning, Conditional Rezoning, Special Use Permits, and text amendments to the Town’s Land Development Code. The Board also reviews preliminary plats for major subdivisions as well as design review for projects in the “Heart of Fletcher” Overlay. Functions of the ZBA include quasi-judicial hearings regarding applications for variances and appeals on zoning matters. The Board typically meets once per month, on the 3rd Tuesday at 6:00 PM

Applicants for the At-Large seat will be reviewed by the Fletcher Town Council. Applicants for this ETJ seat will first be reviewed by Council, and a recommendation will be made to the Commissioners, who would then appoint the recommended individual.  Anyone interested in applying may access the application at this link: https://www.fletchernc.org/town-government/town-committees/board-openings/ OR by contacting either the Town Clerk or Planning Director at (828) 687-3985. The application period for the At Large seat will close on Thursday, November 20, by 5:00 pm. For the ETJ vacancy, it will be open until the vacancy is filled. Applicants would need to be available to attend the December 1 Council agenda meeting as part of the process (with possibly appointment to be made the following week).
