Are you detail-oriented, people-focused, and ready to make a meaningful impact in your community? The Town of Fletcher is seeking an Accounting & Customer Services Specialist to join our team. This position plays a key role in serving the public, supporting financial operations, and keeping our organization running smoothly.
💼 What You’ll Do (Essential Job Functions):
In this dynamic and customer-facing role, you will:
- Assist residents in person and by phone with a variety of services and general inquiries.
- Process payments for taxes, fees, and other revenues.
- Support property tax billing and collections.
- Serve as a Deputy Tax Collector and work toward becoming a Certified Tax Collector.
- Manage business registration billing, collections, and maintain the Town’s business directory.
- Review and reconcile monthly bank statements with the general ledger.
- Assist with payroll processing—from calculations and deductions to reporting and W-2 preparation.
- Support additional accounting and financial processes such as accounts payable, accounts receivable, and routine general ledger maintenance.
- Enter and process accounting data, run check edits, and assist with financial reports.
- Compile and edit the Town’s monthly newsletter.
- Prepare correspondence, reports, and other administrative documents.
đź§ What You Bring (Knowledge, Skills & Abilities):
- Working knowledge of accounting principles, bookkeeping, and municipal financial practices.
- Familiarity with payroll laws and federal/state tax withholding requirements.
- Experience using excel spreadsheets, accounting/tax software, and typical office applications.
- Ability to reconcile financial records, perform accurate calculations, manage shifting priorities, and maintain attention to detail.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, customer service and collection skills.
- Ability to build positive working relationships with the public, vendors, and colleagues.
- Knowledge of tax billing and collection laws (preferred).
🎓 Education & Experience (Qualifications):
- Associate degree in accounting, business, or related field and experience in accounting or clerical work, OR
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business, or related field, OR
- An equivalent combination of education and experience.
